Industrial Valve Supplier Indonesia — Pertamina, Medco & BP Berau Projects

Indonesia is Southeast Asia's largest oil and gas producer — home to Pertamina's six refineries, one of the world's largest LNG complexes at Bontang, and BP's Tangguh LNG in Papua. This guide covers how Vajra Industrial Solutions supplies API 6D and ASME B16.34 valves to Indonesian buyers.

Indonesia is the fourth most populous country on earth and one of Southeast Asia's most significant hydrocarbon producers. With Pertamina operating six major refineries, BP running the Tangguh LNG plant in West Papua, and PT Badak NGL managing one of the world's largest LNG facilities at Bontang in East Kalimantan, the country's appetite for industrial valves across oil, gas, fertiliser, and petrochemical sectors is immense. Vajra Industrial Solutions supplies API 6D ball valves, ASME B16.34 gate valves, and butterfly valves directly to Indonesian procurement agents, EPC contractors, and plant maintenance teams.

Key End-Users: Indonesia's Oil, Gas & Petrochemical Industry

Pertamina — Indonesia's National Oil Company

Pertamina (Persero) operates Indonesia's refining backbone. The Cilacap Refinery in Central Java, at 348,000 barrels per day (bpd), is the largest refinery in Indonesia and one of the largest in Southeast Asia — processing crude oil for gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and petrochemical feedstocks. Other Pertamina refineries include Balikpapan (East Kalimantan, 260,000 bpd after the RDMP expansion), Balongan (West Java, 125,000 bpd), Dumai (Riau, 170,000 bpd), and Plaju (South Sumatra, 133,000 bpd). Each refinery carries out regular turnarounds requiring API 6D ball valves, API 600 gate valves, and API 526 safety relief valves in carbon steel (A216 WCB) and chrome-moly (A217 WC6/WC9) for high-temperature process service.

BP Tangguh LNG — West Papua

BP's Tangguh LNG facility in Teluk Bintuni Bay, West Papua, is a world-scale liquefied natural gas complex with three LNG trains producing 11.4 MTPA of LNG. Trains 1 and 2 have been producing since 2009; Train 3, completed in 2023, added 3.8 MTPA of capacity. LNG service valves at Tangguh must meet demanding cryogenic requirements: A352 LCC (−46°C rating) or A351 CF8M stainless steel bodies, extended bonnet gate valves and globe valves to prevent stem-seal freezing, and full-bore API 6D trunnion ball valves for mainline LNG pipeline isolation. All valves must carry fire-safe certification per API 607.

PT Badak NGL & Bontang LNG — East Kalimantan

The Bontang LNG complex, operated by PT Badak NGL in East Kalimantan, is one of the world's largest LNG production facilities — at peak capacity it operated eight LNG trains with production exceeding 22 MTPA. Badak processes natural gas from the Mahakam Block (TotalEnergies and INPEX concession) and from Pertamina's own Mahakam assets. The complex requires ongoing valve maintenance and replacement across all eight trains, including cryogenic ball valves, check valves, and spiral-wound gasket globe valves in SS 316 and duplex stainless steel.

Medco Energi Internasional

Medco Energi is Indonesia's largest publicly listed oil and gas company, operating production blocks across Sumatra (South Sumatra), Kalimantan, and offshore fields. Medco's operations require NACE MR0175-compliant ball valves and gate valves for sour gas service, as many Sumatra fields produce gas with elevated H₂S content. Medco also operates gas processing plants requiring safety relief valves per API 526 and API 527.

Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) — Fertiliser Complex, Bontang

Adjacent to the Bontang LNG complex, Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) is Indonesia's largest fertiliser producer, operating five ammonia-urea production units in Bontang with total urea capacity exceeding 3 million MT/year. Fertiliser plants are among the most valve-intensive industries — ammonia synthesis requires high-pressure Class 600–900 gate valves and globe valves in chrome-moly steel, CO₂ removal units require SS 316 butterfly valves, and urea granulation units require pinch valves and knife gate valves for prilling tower and slurry service.

Indonesian Regulatory & Standards Framework

BPMA & SKK Migas Regulations

Upstream oil and gas activities in Indonesia are regulated by SKK Migas (Satuan Kerja Khusus Pelaksana Kegiatan Usaha Hulu Minyak dan Gas Bumi). Valves used in upstream projects (wellhead, gathering, pipeline) are generally required to comply with international standards — API 6D for pipelines, API 6A for wellhead — rather than unique Indonesian standards. For the Aceh region (Arun LNG site), BPMA (Badan Pengelola Migas Aceh) provides additional regulatory oversight.

SNI Standards & Local Content (TKDN)

Indonesia's Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) generally adopts international standards (ISO, API) for industrial valves. However, Indonesian buyers — especially Pertamina and state-owned entities — often require Tingkat Kandungan Dalam Negeri (TKDN, Local Content Level) compliance declarations for procurement. For imported valves, suppliers must be able to provide TKDN assessment documentation showing the percentage of local content in the product. Vajra Industrial Solutions can provide TKDN supporting documents and supplier qualification packages for Indonesian procurement teams.

Shipping to Indonesia from India

Port Entry: Tanjung Priok & Surabaya

Most valve shipments from India to Indonesia enter through Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta (the largest port in Indonesia, handling over 70% of the country's container cargo) or through Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya (serving East Java). Shipments to Bontang, Balikpapan, or Tarakan (East Kalimantan) typically transit through Makassar or use direct project cargo vessels. Indian Ocean shipping lanes from Nhava Sheva (Mumbai JNPT) or Mundra Port to Tanjung Priok take 9–14 days by sea; air freight to Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport or Makassar's Sultan Hasanuddin Airport is available for urgent project requirements.

Indonesia Customs: PIB Import Declaration

Valve imports into Indonesia are cleared through the Pemberitahuan Impor Barang (PIB) customs declaration process managed by Bea Cukai (Indonesian Customs and Excise). Key documents for valve imports: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin (preferably Form E under ASEAN-India FTA for reduced duty rates), technical datasheets, and inspection certificates. Valve HS codes for Indonesia: 8481.20 (check valves) and 8481.80 (other industrial valves). Vajra Industrial Solutions provides complete export documentation packages to facilitate smooth PIB clearance.
