Industrial Valve Supplier Italy — Milan, Porto Marghera, Taranto: API 609, PED, EN 13289

Italy hosts one of Europe's largest integrated chemical and petrochemical industries — centred at Porto Marghera (Venice), Priolo Gargallo (Sicily), Taranto (Puglia), and Mantua. ENI's refining network, Versalis petrochemicals, and global EPC contractors like Technip, Saipem, and Maire Tecnimont headquartered in Milan drive sustained demand for PED-compliant, API-certified industrial valves.

Italy's industrial valve market is dominated by three clusters: the petrochemical complex at Porto Marghera near Venice, the refining and chemical industry at Priolo Gargallo near Syracuse (Sicily), and the steel, chemical, and energy industries at Taranto in Puglia. Milan itself is the headquarters for Italy's leading EPC contractors — Saipem, Technip Italy, and Maire Tecnimont — which procure valves for Italian and worldwide projects. The common requirement across all these sectors is PED 2014/68/EU compliance (Pressure Equipment Directive), European standards compliance (EN 13289 for industrial valves, EN 12516 for pressure ratings), and the international standards increasingly specified on Italian oil and gas projects: API 6D, API 609, and ASME B16.34.

Italy's Industrial Valve Demand by Region

Porto Marghera — Venice (Petrochemical and Chemical)

Porto Marghera is one of Europe's oldest and largest integrated petrochemical complexes, located on the mainland adjacent to Venice. Current operators include Versalis (ENI's chemical subsidiary), Ineos Styrolution, Solvay, and several specialty chemical manufacturers. Valve requirements: SS 316 globe valves (90-degree angle pattern) for chemical dosing and condensate return in high-temperature steam lines; PTFE-lined butterfly valves for corrosive chlorinated and acid streams; API 609 Category B triple-offset butterfly valves for hot hydrocarbon service; and actuated valve packages with PED-certified actuators for plant automation.

Priolo Gargallo, Sicily — ENI Refining and Lukoil

The industrial zone at Priolo Gargallo (Augusta-Priolo-Melilli triangle) in Sicily is Italy's largest refinery and petrochemical hub. ENI's Priolo refinery (now operated by ISAB, formerly Lukoil Italy) and ESSO's Augusta refinery require: API 6D trunnion-mounted ball valves and gate valves in Class 300–900 for crude oil, vacuum gas oil, and hydrocarbon service; API 607 fire-safe butterfly valves for LPG loading and crude tankage; and high-temperature WC6/WC9 globe valves for steam superheating and boiler feedwater.

Milan — EPC Contractor Hub

Milan is Italy's and one of Europe's most important EPC contractor headquarters. Saipem (ENI subsidiary), Technip Energies Italy, Maire Tecnimont, and Belleli Energy all maintain major engineering offices in the Milan metropolitan area. These contractors procure valves for projects across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and beyond. Their procurement specifications typically reference: API 6D for oil and gas pipeline valves; API 609 for butterfly valves; EN 13289 (European valve standard) as an alternative to ASME B16.34; and PED 2014/68/EU Cat III or IV conformity for all valves with DN > 25mm and PS > 25 bar in Group 1 fluid service.

European Regulatory Framework — PED 2014/68/EU

The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 2014/68/EU is the fundamental EU regulatory framework for industrial valves sold in Italy and across the European Union. PED categorises pressure equipment by fluid group and product of pressure × volume (or nominal diameter for valves), and requires conformity assessment by a Notified Body (NB) for Categories II, III, and IV:

  • Category I: Low-risk valves — manufacturer self-certification (Module A). Typically DN ≤ 25mm for Group 1 fluids or low pressure utility valves.
  • Category II: Medium-risk valves — requires Module A2, D1, or E1 (production quality assurance or type examination). Many standard industrial ball valves in Group 1 fluid service fall here.
  • Category III: Higher-risk valves — requires Module B+D, B+F, G, or H (type examination + production QA). API 6D pipeline ball valves in Class 300+ for gas service typically Category III.
  • Category IV: Highest-risk valves — requires Module B+D, G, or H1. Large-bore, high-pressure valves in Group 1 gas service (e.g. DN 400 Class 600 ball valves for natural gas pipelines).
  • CE Marking: All valves in Categories I–IV sold in Italy and EU must bear CE marking with the PED module reference and Notified Body number.
  • Declaration of Conformity (DoC): Must accompany every valve shipment — declares compliance with PED 2014/68/EU and lists the applicable harmonised standards (EN 13289, EN 12266-1, etc.).

Exporting Valves to Italy from India

Vajra Industrial Solutions exports industrial valves to Italy — primarily to Milan, Marghera (Venice), Taranto, and Priolo — from our Vadodara, Gujarat manufacturing base. Sea freight from Nhava Sheva (Mumbai) to Genoa, La Spezia, or Livorno takes approximately 18–22 days. Air freight from Mumbai to Milan Malpensa Airport takes 2–3 business days for urgent requirements. For EU market entry, all valves supplied by Vajra are accompanied by a CE/PED Declaration of Conformity where required (Categories I–IV as applicable), material test reports (EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2), pressure test certificates per EN 12266-1 / API 598, and dimensional inspection reports. For Italian and European buyers requiring third-party inspection (TPI), we work with Bureau Veritas, TÜV SÜD, Intertek, and SGS inspection agencies.
