Which valve standard applies, and how do they relate?
Valve standards fall into four roles: design/specification (API 6D, API 600, API 602, ASME B16.34, API 609), testing (API 598, API 607 fire-safe, ISO 5208, ISO 15848 emissions), material (NACE MR0175 sour service, ASTM grades), and installation/dimensions (ASME B16.10, ASME B16.5 flanges). A valve is rarely built to one standard — e.g., an API 6D ball valve is pressure-rated to ASME B16.34, fire-tested to API 607, and inspection-tested to API 598. The map below groups every standard by issuing body and links the ones it cross-references.
