Valve Material Compatibility
Select a process fluid to see compatible body materials, trim, and seat materials with suitability ratings and engineering warnings.
Reference only — verify with a qualified materials engineer and the applicable standard before selection.
Corrosive
Sulphuric Acid (H2SO4)
pH < 2up to 80°C
Concentration-dependent: dilute H2SO4 (<5%) is highly aggressive to CS; concentrated H2SO4 (>78%) is passivating on CS. Alloy 20 is the gold standard across concentrations.
Engineering Warnings
- !Concentrated H2SO4 reacts violently with water — avoid steam tracing leaks
- !Dilute acid attacks carbon steel rapidly — do not substitute with CS in low-concentration service
- !Avoid EPDM seals — degraded rapidly by acid
