Standard EPDM elastomer is rated for continuous service at 120°C in district heating water. Above 120°C, EPDM begins to swell and lose compression set, reducing seat tightness. HNBR (hydrogenated nitrile) is an alternative to EPDM rated to 150°C if available from the seat manufacturer.
