Spring-Energized PTFE Seat Seal

A PTFE seat jacket with an internal spring (canted-coil or C-ring) provides continuous, self-compensating seating force, holding bubble-tight shutoff across a wider pressure and temperature range than a plain PTFE seat.

How does spring-energized ptfe seat seal work?

The spring inside the PTFE jacket keeps the seat energised against the ball or disc even as the PTFE cold-flows under load or the temperature cycles - the spring, not the PTFE alone, sustains the seating force over the valve's life.

When to Use It

  • Ball and plug valves needing bubble-tight (Class VI / zero-leakage) shutoff across variable pressure and temperature
  • Cryogenic and high-temperature extremes beyond what unassisted PTFE seats reliably hold
  • Repeated cycling duty where an unassisted soft seat would lose seating force over time

Limitations

  • More expensive and more complex than a plain PTFE seat
  • Still a soft-seat design - not suited to abrasive or high-temperature-above-PTFE-limit service without a metal-seated alternative
