Industrial Valve Supplier Egypt — Zohr Gas Field, Suez Canal & ECHEM Projects

Egypt is Africa's second-largest oil producer and operates one of the world's busiest industrial corridors along the Suez Canal. The Zohr gas field, ECHEM petrochemical complex, and rapidly growing LNG infrastructure create strong demand for API 6D-certified industrial valves.

Egypt occupies a unique strategic position in the global energy map. With proven hydrocarbon reserves in the Mediterranean (Zohr), the Western Desert, and the Gulf of Suez, combined with its control of the Suez Canal — through which approximately 12% of global trade passes — Egypt is a major and growing market for industrial valve procurement. The Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and international operators including ENI, BP, Shell, and TotalEnergies are all active valve buyers in the Egyptian market.

Zohr Gas Field — ENI's Largest Discovery

Discovered by ENI (Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi) in August 2015, the Zohr gas field in the Egyptian Mediterranean is the largest gas discovery in the history of the Mediterranean Sea. Located 190 km off the coast of Port Said in approximately 1,500 m water depth, Zohr holds estimated reserves of 850 billion cubic metres (30 tcf) of gas. Production began in December 2017 and reached plateau at 2.7 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) — enough to meet Egypt's entire natural gas demand at the time of development.

The Zohr development (operated by Petrobel, a joint venture of ENI and EGPC) required extensive procurement of subsea and topside valves: subsea wellhead valves per API 6A and API 17D for the wet-tree completion wells; topside topsides ball valves, gate valves, and check valves per API 6D for the Zohr platform; anti-surge and pressure control valves (globe-type, modulating) for the gas compression train; and export pipeline isolation valves (Class 600 and Class 900 full-bore ball valves) for the 220 km Zohr-to-shore export pipeline. The Zohr project procurement was managed through ENI's global SAP procurement system with strict vendor pre-qualification.

ECHEM — Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company

ECHEM (Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company) is the state holding company overseeing Egypt's petrochemical sector, encompassing: Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) — a 460,000 tpa ethylene cracker and downstream polyethylene complex at Alexandria; Egyptian Linear Alkyl Benzene Company (ELAB); Egyptian Propylene and Polypropylene Company (EPPC) — a 420,000 tpa polypropylene plant at El-Ain El-Sokhna; and Egypt Basic Industries Corporation (EBIC) — a 730,000 tpa ammonia plant at Ein El-Sokhna, majority owned by Koch Fertilizer. Valve requirements across the ECHEM portfolio include: SS 316 ball valves and diaphragm valves for ethylene and polyethylene unit clean service; PTFE-lined butterfly valves and ball valves for caustic soda and chemical feed lines; API 6D trunnion-mounted ball valves for ethylene loading arms; spring-loaded safety relief valves per API 526 for vessels and heat exchangers across all complexes.

SUMED Pipeline — Strategic Infrastructure

The Arab Petroleum Pipelines Company (SUMED) operates two 42-inch parallel oil pipelines running 320 km from Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea coast to Sidi Kerir on the Mediterranean, providing an alternative crude oil transit route bypassing the Suez Canal for VLCCs. SUMED handles approximately 2.4 million bpd. The pipeline system uses API 6D full-bore trunnion ball valves at all block valve stations, with pneumatic actuators and remote SCADA control. Cathodic protection systems, buried service epoxy-coated bodies, and API 6D fire-safe trim are standard for SUMED block valves.

Sidi Kerir Terminal and Ain Sokhna LNG Import

The Sidi Kerir terminal on Egypt's Mediterranean coast is the northern end of the SUMED pipeline and a major crude export point with a storage capacity of 7.5 million barrels. The terminal uses large-bore Class 300 and Class 600 gate valves and butterfly valves for tankage and marine loading arms. Egypt has also commissioned LNG import capacity at Ain Sokhna (Red Sea) through floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) leased during the 2015–2019 gas shortage period. The FSRU operations use cryogenic LNG loading/offloading arms with associated cryogenic ball and gate valves rated to –196°C (ASTM A352 LCC / CF8M body, BS 6364 compliant extended bonnets).

Port Said East — Special Economic Zone

Port Said East Industrial Zone, adjacent to the northern entrance of the Suez Canal, is a rapidly developing industrial hub hosting logistics, light manufacturing, and process industries. The Egyptian government has actively promoted the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), attracting investment in metals, chemicals, fertilizers, and downstream petroleum products. New plants in the SCZone require full valve packages from process piping (API 6D ball valves, API 600 gate valves) to utility systems (CI or ductile iron gate valves for fire water, butterfly valves for cooling water).

Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC)

EGPC is Egypt's national oil company, responsible for the upstream and midstream petroleum sector. EGPC operates directly or through joint ventures (JVs with international oil companies) over 60 crude oil and natural gas production concessions. EGPC procurement for valve replacement and new projects follows: API 6D for gas pipelines, API 600 for process valves in refineries (Suez, Alexandria, and Mostorod refineries), and ASME B16.34 pressure-temperature ratings. EGPC Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PEPCO) manages Egypt's LPG distribution — LPG pipelines and bottling plants use API 607 fire-safe ball valves and ASME Class 300 or 600 ball valves.

Egyptian Standards and Import Documentation

Valve procurement in Egypt typically requires the following documentation: EN 10204 3.1 material test certificates for all pressure-containing parts; hydrostatic and seat leakage test reports per API 598; third-party inspection (TPI) by Bureau Veritas Egypt, SGS Egypt, or Lloyd's Register; certificate of conformity with API 6D or API 600 as applicable; commercial invoice and packing list in Arabic and English; certificate of origin from the Indian Chamber of Commerce; and GOEIC clearance at Port Said or Alexandria port (Egyptian General Organisation for Import and Export Control). Egypt does not have a preferential FTA with India, so standard Egyptian import duties (typically 5–10% for industrial valves) apply.

Delivery from India to Egypt

Sea freight from JNPT (Mumbai) or Mundra to Port Said or Alexandria: 10–15 days transit. This is one of the shortest India-to-Africa trade routes due to the proximity of Egypt to India via the Red Sea and Suez Canal. Airfreight for urgent spares from Ahmedabad/Mumbai to Cairo International Airport (CAI): 2–3 days. Vajra Industrial Solutions manages full export documentation for Egyptian customs clearance including GOEIC-format invoices and Arabic-language packing lists on request.
