Industrial Valve Supplier for Indonesia, Thailand & Vietnam — Southeast Asia EPC & Process Plants

Southeast Asia's oil & gas, petrochemical, and power sectors in Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam represent a rapidly growing market for API 6D and ASME-certified industrial valves. This guide covers key end-users, standards, and procurement insights for valve sourcing across the three largest ASEAN industrial economies.

Why Southeast Asia Matters for Industrial Valve Supply

Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam together account for more than 60% of ASEAN's manufacturing and energy output. All three are undergoing significant industrial expansion: Indonesia is building 35 GW of new power capacity and expanding its Balongan, Cilacap, and Balikpapan refineries; Thailand is growing its Map Ta Phut industrial estate into the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC); and Vietnam is adding LNG import infrastructure and expanding its Nghi Son and Long Son petrochemical complexes. Each country offers substantial valve procurement volumes for API 6D, ASME B16.34, and EN-certified products.

Indonesia — Pertamina, Chandra Asri & the Archipelago's Industrial Demand

Pertamina Refining & Petrochemicals

Pertamina (Persero) — Indonesia's national oil company — operates six refineries (Cilacap, Balongan, Dumai, Plaju, Balikpapan, Kasim) with a combined capacity of 1 million bbl/day, plus upstream oil & gas production across Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Java. The ongoing RDMP (Refinery Development Master Plan) upgrades at Balongan and Balikpapan are the largest single-site valve procurement programmes in Southeast Asia — requiring API 6D trunnion ball valves, API 600 gate valves, API 609 triple-offset butterfly valves, and safety relief valves to API 526. All Pertamina procurement requires SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) documentation and TKDN (local content) compliance where applicable.

Chandra Asri & Petrochemical Complexes

Chandra Asri Petrochemical (Cilegon, Banten) is Southeast Asia's largest ethylene cracker — producing ethylene, propylene, butadiene, and styrene. It requires stainless steel and duplex ball valves, cryogenic gate valves for ethylene service (-104°C), and control valves with anti-cavitation trim for distillation column level and pressure control. The PT Trans-Pacific Petrochemical Indotama (TPPI) complex at Tuban and the new Lotte Chemical Indonesia complex add to the petrochemical valve demand.

PLN Power Generation

PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara), Indonesia's state utility, operates a 75 GW+ power fleet including coal-fired steam plants, geothermal plants (Indonesia is the world's second-largest geothermal producer), and the Cirata and Saguling hydroelectric dams. Coal-fired plants require ASME B16.34 gate and globe valves in WC6/WC9 for HP steam, butterfly valves for condenser cooling water, and safety valves (API 526, ASME Section I). Geothermal service requires special trim materials for highly corrosive steam containing H₂S, CO₂, and silica.

Thailand — PTT, IRPC, and the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate

PTT Group & PTTGC

PTT Public Company Ltd is Thailand's national oil and gas corporation, operating gas separation plants, an LNG receiving terminal at Map Ta Phut (Thai LNG), and major pipeline networks supplying natural gas to power plants across the country. Its subsidiary PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) operates the largest petrochemical complex in Thailand — requiring API 6D ball valves for gas pipelines, LNG-service cryogenic valves, and IEC 60534-compliant control valves for distillation and reaction column service.

IRPC, Thai Oil & Refineries

IRPC (formerly TPI Polene Petrochemicals) at Rayong operates an integrated refinery and petrochemical complex producing 215,000 bbl/day of refined products plus aromatics and polymers. Thai Oil (Sriracha Refinery) is the largest refinery in Thailand at 275,000 bbl/day. Both require the full range of API refinery valves: rising stem gate valves (API 600), Y-type globe valves, dual-plate check valves, and fire-safe ball valves for hydrocarbon service. The EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) infrastructure expansion will add significant new plant capacity through 2030.

Water, Utilities & Infrastructure

Thailand's MWA (Metropolitan Waterworks Authority) and PWA (Provincial Waterworks Authority) are significant consumers of ductile iron gate valves (EN 1171, BS 5163), butterfly valves (EN 593), and check valves for water transmission mains. The Eastern Water Resources Development and Management PCL (East Water) operates Thailand's largest industrial water supply network serving Map Ta Phut, Amata, and Laem Chabang industrial estates — all requiring AWWA and EN-compliant water works valves.

Vietnam — PV Gas, Nghi Son & the Growing LNG Sector

PV Gas & Binh Son

PVN (PetroVietnam) and its subsidiary PV Gas operate Vietnam's gas gathering, transportation, and processing infrastructure — including the PM3-CAA and Cuu Long gas fields, the Bach Ho–Dinh Co pipeline system, and the Dinh Co gas processing plant. PV Gas's new LNG import projects (Son My, Thi Vai, Bac Lieu LNG) represent Vietnam's first large-scale LNG receiving infrastructure — creating demand for cryogenic-service trunnion ball valves, BOG (boil-off gas) butterfly valves, and safety valves for LNG storage tanks (API 2000).

Nghi Son & Long Son Petrochemical Complexes

Nghi Son Refinery & Petrochemical LLC (NSRP) in Thanh Hoa Province is Vietnam's second refinery, operational since 2018 at 200,000 bbl/day, with refining, aromatics, and polypropylene units. Long Son Petrochemicals (SCG, Viet Nam, Vingroup joint venture) in Ba Ria-Vung Tau is Vietnam's first integrated petrochemical complex — producing ethylene, propylene, PE, and PP. Both require the full API refinery valve portfolio and represent the primary high-specification valve procurement opportunities in Vietnam.

Power Generation & Renewables

EVN (Vietnam Electricity) operates coal-fired, hydro, and rapidly expanding wind and solar capacity. Coal-fired plants (Duyen Hai, Vinh Tan, Nghi Son Thermal Power) require ASME gate and globe valves for steam systems, butterfly valves for FGD (flue gas desulphurisation) absorbers, and safety valves. The surge in offshore wind development (Mong Cai, Phu Cuong Soc Trang) creates demand for marine-grade duplex stainless butterfly valves, subsea ball valves, and actuated valve packages for offshore substations.

Standards and Certifications Required for ASEAN Markets

  • API 6D — oil and gas pipeline valves (applicable in all three countries for upstream and midstream)
  • API 600 / ASME B16.34 — pressure ratings and dimensional standards for refinery gate, globe, and check valves
  • API 609 — butterfly valves for refinery service (IRPC, PTTGC, Chandra Asri, NSRP)
  • ASME Section VIII / API 526 — safety and relief valves for pressure vessels
  • IEC 60534 — control valves for PTT, Pertamina, and PVN process plants
  • EN 593 / AWWA C504 — butterfly valves for water utilities (PLN, MWA, PWA, EVN)
  • SNI (Indonesia) — Standar Nasional Indonesia; applicable to government-funded projects under Pertamina, PLN, and PU (Public Works)
  • ISO 9001:2015 — mandatory for vendor registration with all major NOCs and IPPs in the region
