Kazakhstan is Central Asia's largest oil producer, with proven reserves of 30 billion barrels and two of the world's largest and most technically demanding operating oil fields — Tengizchevroil (TCO, 800,000 bopd, expanding to 1.2 MBPD under the Future Growth Project / Wellhead Pressure Management Project) and the North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) Kashagan field (370,000 bopd, first oil 2013, one of the world's most complex developments due to ultra-high H₂S + CO₂ sour content). For valve suppliers, Kazakhstan represents a challenging but lucrative market requiring the highest levels of NACE MR0175 compliance, EAEU Customs Union technical regulation certification, and experience with super duplex and alloy steel materials.
Tengizchevroil (TCO) — Valve Requirements
Tengiz crude is extremely sour — H₂S concentration up to 26% in produced gas. All valves in contact with produced fluids must comply with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 for SSC (sulphide stress cracking) resistance. TCO uses API 6D Class 300–1500 trunnion ball valves and API 600 gate valves for wellhead and trunk pipeline service. The Future Growth Project (FGP-WPMP), adding 260,000 bopd, specified Class 600 and 900 valves with NACE MR0175 compliance throughout.
Kashagan NCOC — Ultra-Sour Specifications
- H₂S concentration: 19–26% (extremely high sour content by global standards)
- CO₂ content: 5–7% — aggressive corrosion in combination with H₂S
- Valve material: Super Duplex 2507 (UNS S32750, PREN≥40) or Inconel 625 overlay for severe sour service
- API 6D Class 900–1500 for mainline and trunk pipeline valves
- HIPPS ball valves (SIL 3, IEC 61508) for high-pressure wellhead ESD
- Sour gas injection (SGI) system: uses cryogenic-rated valves for re-injecting processed sour gas
- All valves: NACE TM0284 (HIC), NACE TM0177 (SSC), NACE MR0175 full compliance
EAEU Customs Union (Kazakhstan) Valve Certification
Kazakhstan is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) — which includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan. Under EAEU Technical Regulation TR CU 032/2013 (Safety of Pressure Equipment), valves sold in Kazakhstan must carry the EAC (Eurasian Conformity) mark, based on either type testing by an accredited EAEU test laboratory or manufacturer's declaration of conformity. For export from India to Kazakhstan, valve manufacturers need a TR CU 032/2013 Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and EAC certificate to clear customs at Aktau or Almaty.
Key Valve Certifications for Kazakhstan Oil and Gas
- API 6D — pipeline ball valves, gate valves, check valves
- NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 + NACE TM0284 + TM0177 — mandatory for sour service
- EAEU TR CU 032/2013 — EAC mark for customs clearance
- ASME B16.34 pressure-temperature rating
- EN 10204 3.2 MTCs (third-party witness) for critical NACE components
- PMI (Positive Material Identification) for all alloy steel and duplex stainless
- Third-party inspection by Bureau Veritas, SGS, or TÜV for TCO/NCOC procurement
