The United Arab Emirates has transformed from an oil export economy to a highly diversified industrial nation. ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) dominates the upstream and midstream sectors, but the UAE is also home to world-class downstream petrochemicals (Borouge - 4.5 million tonnes/year polyolefins), aluminium smelting (EMAL, now part of EGA - 2.6 million tonnes/year), steel (Emirates Steel - 3.5 million tonnes/year), and advanced manufacturing in the ICAD (Industrial City of Abu Dhabi) and Kizad (Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi) free zones.
ADNOC - Abu Dhabi National Oil Company
ADNOC produces approximately 4 million bpd of crude oil and 10+ billion standard cubic feet per day (bscfd) of gas through its operating subsidiaries: ADCO (onshore), ADMA-OPCO (offshore Das Island, Zirku Island), ZADCO (Upper Zakum offshore field - one of the world's largest offshore fields), and GASCO (gas processing, NGL fractionation, LPG). ADNOC valve requirements follow ADNOC General Specifications (AGES) and ADNOC HSE-E standards. Key specifications: AGES-GL-06-001 (Isolation Valves), AGES-GL-06-002 (Non-return Valves), AGES-GL-06-003 (Control Valves). ADNOC maintains an Approved Vendor List (AVL) - manufacturers must be AVL-qualified for supply to ADNOC operating companies.
GASCO - Sour Gas Processing
GASCO (Gas Company, 68% ADNOC, 32% Shell/TotalEnergies/Partex) processes sour natural gas from Abu Dhabi fields at the Habshan, Ruwais, Bab, and Shah facilities. Shah gas development (ADNOC 60%, Occidental 40%) processes ultra-sour gas with H2S content above 23% - one of the highest H2S concentrations of any gas processing facility in the world. Valve requirements for GASCO sour service: NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 for all wetted metallic components; hardness limited to 22 HRC for body, bonnet, and trim; ESD valves with SIL 2 or SIL 3 rated actuator packages; low fugitive emission packing per ISO 15848-1.
Borouge - World-Scale Polyolefin Complex
Borouge (50% ADNOC, 50% Borealis) operates the world's largest integrated polyolefin complex at Ruwais, Abu Dhabi - Borouge 1, 2, 3 and the planned Borouge 4 expansion will bring total capacity to 6.4 million tonnes/year. The complex includes ethylene crackers (ethane-fed from GASCO's NGL), polyethylene (PE), and polypropylene (PP) plants. Valve requirements: ASME B16.34 Class 150-900 flanged valves for ethylene and propylene service; cryogenic valves with BS 6364 compliance for ethylene storage and transport; fire-safe API 607 valves for all hydrocarbon service; low-emission packing (API 624 or ISO 15848-1) for volatile organic compound control.
Import and Logistics to UAE
Shipping valves to UAE: Jebel Ali Port (DP World) in Dubai is the Middle East's largest port and the primary hub for valve supply to the entire region. Port Khalifa (Abu Dhabi Ports) serves direct ADNOC and ICAD industrial zone delivery. Transit times: 10-14 days sea freight from JNPT Mumbai to Jebel Ali; 12-16 days from Chennai. Air freight (DHL/FedEx) to Dubai or Abu Dhabi: 3-5 days for urgent requirements. Customs: UAE levies 5% VAT on imports (zero-rated for re-export from Jebel Ali Free Zone). ECAS (Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme) certification is required for some product categories - confirm ECAS requirements for specific valve types with the relevant UAE authority before shipment.
