About the Manual Pinch Valve
The manual pinch valve controls flow by mechanically pinching a flexible rubber sleeve (the valve's only wetted component) between two parallel pinch bars driven by a handwheel and screw mechanism. Rotating the handwheel drives the upper and lower pinch bars toward each other, squeezing the sleeve until the inner walls meet and the bore is fully closed. Reversing the handwheel retracts the bars, allowing the sleeve's rubber elasticity to restore the full cylindrical bore. Because the sleeve is the only part in contact with the process fluid, the body, mechanism, and all metal components never touch the fluid - eliminating all concerns about corrosion, erosion, and contamination of the valve body by the process.
This simple, robust design excels in abrasive slurry service where the continuously moving sleeve face wipes particles away during closure, preventing solid build-up and seat erosion that would disable conventional gate, ball, or butterfly valves within weeks. The sleeve also acts as a flexible lining that accommodates the passage of coarse particles and can self-clear minor blockages by increasing the pinch force temporarily. Manual pinch valves are ideal for operations requiring periodic manual adjustment of slurry flow rate in cement, mining, and aggregate processing plants. Vajra Industrial Solutions supplies manual pinch valves in sizes 1" to 12" with EPDM, Neoprene, Natural Rubber, and Nitrile sleeves to MSS SP-88.
Where It's Used
Key industries and applications for the Manual Pinch Valve
Mining and tailings management
manual pinch valves on tailings slurry distribution from hydrocyclone overflow and thickener underflow; abrasion-resistant natural rubber or polyurethane sleeve handles high-density sand slurry with particle sizes up to 50 mm
Cement and concrete plants
manual pinch valves on cement slurry, fly ash, and raw meal conveying lines; robust sleeve handles abrasive mineral particles; no internal metal parts to scale up or jam with cement buildup
Aggregate and quarry processing
manual pinch valves on stone sand, gravel, and crushed rock slurry lines in quarry washing and classification plants; easy field adjustment of slurry flow rate to balance cyclone feed pressure
Wastewater and municipal sludge
manual pinch valves on primary sludge, digested sludge, and grit distribution in water resource recovery facilities; packing-free design eliminates the primary failure mode in sludge service
Food and pharmaceutical powder conveying
SS316 body manual pinch valves with FDA-compliant EPDM sleeve for controlling pneumatically conveyed powders (flour, sugar, starch, pharmaceutical APIs) in batch dosing operations
How to Choose the Right Manual Pinch Valve
Manual pinch valves are the correct choice for abrasive slurry, viscous fluids, and solids-containing process streams where conventional valve types fail rapidly due to erosion, corrosion, or plugging. Select sleeve material for chemical and temperature compatibility: Natural Rubber for abrasive mineral slurry up to 60°C; EPDM for mildly corrosive and hot water service to 120°C; Neoprene for oil-splash environments; Nitrile for petroleum-based fluids. Body material (Aluminum, Cast Iron, or Stainless Steel) is irrelevant to process fluid compatibility since the sleeve is the only wetted part - select based on external environment (marine, food grade, etc.).
