Which butterfly valves are used for hvac & building services?
Commercial buildings, hospitals, data centres, airports, and large residential complexes require a wide range of valves for HVAC systems (chilled water, hot water, condenser water), fire suppression (deluge, sprinkler), domestic plumbing, and cooling tower circuits. These applications demand valves with long service life, actuator compatibility for BMS integration, and in the case of fire suppression, UL listing or FM Approval.

- Low pressure drop design for butterfly and ball valves on chiller circuits - minimises pump energy
- EPDM seat material rated for both chilled water (7–12°C) and hot water (up to 95°C) in 4-pipe systems
- Grooved-end (Victaulic) and flanged end connections for building services piping
- Tamper-resistant OS&Y (outside screw and yoke) gate valves for fire suppression mains - visible open/closed indication
Service Challenges
- Chilled water with glycol (below 0°C in cold climates) - EPDM seats rated for glycol service, low-temp ductile iron
- Condenser water (open-loop, biological growth risk) - EPDM and ductile iron withstand microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) inhibitor treatment
- Hot water (80–95°C in district heating systems) - EPDM seats rated to 130°C+
- Fire water (standing service, periodic operation) - OS&Y gate valves with tamper indicators, periodic proof-test required
- Domestic cold water (chlorinated, potable) - NSF 61 or WRAS-approved elastomers for potable water contact
