EN 558 Ball Valves
What EN 558 requires for ball valves — applicability, key and testing requirements, the alternative standards, and compliant supply with full certification.
What does EN 558 require for ball valves?
EN 558 (EN 558 - Face-to-Face and Centre-to-Face Dimensions of Metal Valves for Use in Flanged Pipe Systems, European Committee for Standardization (CEN)) sets the design, material and testing requirements for ball valves in its scope. EN 558 is the European equivalent of ASME B16.10, defining face-to-face and end-to-end dimensions for flanged metal valves in PN-rated systems - essential for European EPC and refinery projects.
Applicable Pressure Classes
Key Requirements
- Series 1: short-pattern valves (butterfly wafer and lug, check valves)
- Series 14: standard face-to-face for gate and globe valves to PN 16
- Series 15: standard face-to-face for gate and globe valves to PN 25-100
- Series 20: long-pattern valves with extended bonnets (cryogenic, high-temperature)
- Dimensions given for DN 10 to DN 2000 in applicable PN ratings
- Used with EN 1092-1 flanges and EN 13709 valve design standards
Testing Requirements
- Dimensional inspection per EN 558 table at time of manufacture
Alternative Standards for Ball Valves
Other standards that also govern ball valves — useful for spec cross-acceptance.
