Application Specification

Globe Valves for Refinery & Petrochemical Process

Full range of refinery and petrochemical process valves - ASME B16.34, API 6D, NACE sour service, high-temperature alloy steel - for IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, Reliance, and EPC projects.

Which globe valves are used for refinery & petrochemical process?

Oil refineries and petrochemical complexes require valves across the widest possible range of operating conditions - from low-pressure condensate to high-pressure hydrogen, from ambient temperature naphtha to 450°C hot oil, and from dry utility gas to H₂S-bearing sour streams. Compliance with ASME B16.34, API 6D, API 600, API 607, NACE MR0175, and IBR (for steam) is mandatory.

Globe Valve (Control & Isolation)

Throttling, flow control, and pressure regulation in refinery process and utility headers

MaterialsA216 WCB, A217 WC9, SS 316 (CF8M) for corrosive streams
Pressure ClassClass 150 / 300 / 600 / 900 / 1500
StandardsAPI 623, ASME B16.34, BS 1873

Critical Requirements

  • ASME B16.34 pressure-temperature rating compliance - mandatory for all pressure-containing valve components
  • API 600 gate valve design standard (bolted bonnet, outside screw and yoke, backseat)
  • IBR certification for steam lines: Form III-C (material) and Form III-E (test certificate)
  • API 607 fire-safe certification for all valves handling flammable hydrocarbons
  • NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour service (H₂S ≥50 ppm or sour conditions)
  • Fugitive emission compliance: ISO 15848-1 Class B or better for VOC-containing services

Service Challenges

  • Crude oil at elevated temperature (300–400°C) - alloy steel WC9 or C12A required
  • H₂S and mercaptans - NACE MR0175 hardness-controlled materials
  • Hydrogen service - hydrogen embrittlement risk; special material grades and testing required
  • Hot naphthas and aromatics - PTFE seats degrade above 230°C; metal seats required
  • Caustic (NaOH) - stress corrosion cracking risk in CS; SS 316 or nickel alloy required
  • Amines (DEA, MDEA) - amine SCC in carbon steel welds; PWHT (post-weld heat treatment) required
