Gate Valves for Textile & Dyeing Plants

SS316L ball and butterfly valves for dye bath and chemical auxiliary service, PVDF or titanium valves for bleaching chemicals, and IBR gate valves for jigger and yarn dyeing machine steam heating.

Which gate valves are used for textile & dyeing plants?

Textile dyeing and finishing plants handle an extraordinarily wide range of chemicals - reactive, acid, and disperse dyes in acidic or alkaline bath conditions; bleaching agents including hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, and peracetic acid; reducing agents like sodium hydrosulphite; mercerising caustic soda; and high-temperature steam for heat-setting and autoclave processes. No single valve material handles all these chemicals, making material selection critical at each service point. Vajra Industrial Solutions supplies SS316L valves for dye and auxiliary chemicals, PVDF or titanium for oxidising bleach, and IBR-certified steam valves for dyeing machine heating systems.

Gate Valve (IBR Steam)

Dyeing machine steam heating, heat-setting calender, and autoclave steam supply - IBR Form III mandatory

MaterialsA216 WCB; graphite packing for 180°C saturated steam; SS316 stem
Pressure ClassClass 150 / 300
StandardsIBR 1950, ASME B16.34

Critical Requirements

  • Material compatibility matrix - each valve service must be individually checked against the specific chemical: SS316L is not suitable for hydrochloric acid or chloride-rich bleach above 60°C
  • IBR certification for all steam valves in Indian textile plants - steam to dyeing machines, calenders, and autoclave sterilisers above 3.5 kg/cm²
  • Hydrogen peroxide service - H₂O₂ is a strong oxidiser; PVDF or titanium body; PTFE or EPDM seats; no iron or copper contamination (catalyses H₂O₂ decomposition)
  • Sodium hypochlorite bleach - unstable above 40°C; SS316L and CPVC; no rubber in contact with NaOCl (attacks EPDM and NBR above 2% concentration)
  • Dye bath recirculation - large-bore DN100–DN300 butterfly valves required for high-volume dye vessel circulation; EPDM seat for pH 4–11 textile dyes
  • Wastewater treatment - valve materials for effluent must resist mixed chemicals; rubber-lined or SS316L butterfly valves

Service Challenges

  • Reactive dye bath (pH 10.5–11.5, 60–80°C) - alkaline; SS316L or WCB + EPDM seats acceptable
  • Acid dye bath (pH 3.5–5, 90–100°C) - acidic, hot; SS316L body and ball; PTFE seats
  • Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂ 35–50%) - oxidising bleach; PVDF or titanium; no metal catalysts
  • Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl 3–12%) - oxidising bleach at ambient temperature; SS316L or CPVC; PTFE seats
  • Mercerising caustic (NaOH 18–25%) - strong alkali; SS316L; avoid aluminium
  • Indigo vat dye (alkaline reduction bath, Na₂S₂O₄) - sulphur-containing reducing agent; SS316L or PP
