Industrial Valves for Cement & Mining

Abrasion-Resistant Valves for Raw Meal, Slurry and Ore Handling

Cement and mining processes involve highly abrasive media — raw limestone powder, coal dust, cement slurries, ore pulp, and tailings — that rapidly erode conventional valves. Vajra supplies abrasion-resistant knife gate valves, pinch valves, and ceramic-lined or rubber-lined butterfly valves engineered for long service life in these demanding applications.

Key Cement & Mining Applications

We supply application-specific valve solutions for each segment of the cement & mining industry.

01

Cement Raw Meal & Kiln Feed

Knife gate valves for raw meal silos, kiln feed systems, and coal dosing. SS316 or hardened wear-plate gate material for abrasion resistance. Pressurized packing gland to prevent fine powder ingress. Pneumatic actuation for remote operation in kiln feed control.

02

Ore & Concentrate Slurry

Pinch valves for iron ore, copper concentrate, and gold tailings slurry service. Natural rubber sleeve isolates the slurry from the valve body — zero internal dead volume. High cycle life (>100,000 cycles) in abrasive slurry. Available up to DN400 (16").

03

Cooling Water & Process Water

Rubber-seated butterfly valves and gate valves for cooling tower circuits, mine dewatering, and process water supply. Ductile iron body with epoxy or rubber lining for corrosion resistance in mine water with low pH and dissolved minerals.

04

Dust & Dry Powder Handling

Diaphragm valves and knife gate valves for cement dust, fly ash, and silica powder systems. Air-tight construction prevents dust leakage. Body purge connections available to clear trapped powder from valve cavity.

05

High-Pressure Hydraulic Mining

High-pressure gate valves and ball valves for hydraulic mining, jet cutting, and high-pressure washing systems. Stainless steel or chrome-moly alloy construction for pressures up to 700 bar.

Frequently Asked Questions — Cement & Mining Valves

What type of valve is best for cement slurry service?+
Pinch valves are the best choice for abrasive cement slurry — the natural rubber sleeve provides a smooth, unobstructed bore with no internal parts to wear or clog. For on-off isolation, knife gate valves with hardened SS316L gates and natural rubber seats are used at system isolation points. For dry cement powder (raw meal, fly ash), diaphragm valves with powder-purge connections prevent fine powder from jamming the valve.
How long does a pinch valve sleeve last in mineral slurry service?+
Sleeve life depends heavily on slurry abrasiveness, particle size, slurry velocity, and pressure. In typical mineral slurry (iron ore, copper concentrate) at velocities below 3 m/s, natural rubber sleeves last 6–18 months. In very abrasive applications, we recommend ceramic-lined sleeves or high-natural-rubber (HNR) compound sleeves. Sleeve replacement takes less than 30 minutes and does not require valve removal from the line.
Can knife gate valves be used in high-pressure cement plant service?+
Standard knife gate valves are designed for low-pressure service up to 6–10 bar (Class 150 to Class 300 equivalent). For higher pressures in cement or mining service, we recommend hardened gate valves or ball valves with abrasion-resistant trim. Our team can recommend the right valve type for your specific pressure, temperature, and media requirements.
