Industrial Valves for Water & Wastewater

Large-Diameter Valves for Municipal Water, Desalination & Wastewater Treatment

Water and wastewater treatment plants are among the largest users of large-diameter valves — from DN200 butterfly valves on pump discharge lines to DN1500 sluice gates at reservoir inlets. Vajra supplies resilient-seated and metal-seated butterfly valves, rising stem gate valves, dual-plate check valves, and knife gate valves for raw water intake, filtration, RO desalination, and effluent treatment.

Key Water Treatment Applications

We supply application-specific valve solutions for each segment of the water & wastewater industry.

01

Water Intake & Distribution

Large-diameter rubber-seated butterfly valves (DN200–DN2000) for raw water intake, clear water pump station, and distribution mains. Double-flanged or MJ (mechanical joint) ends for underground buried service. Epoxy-coated ductile iron body for corrosion protection.

03

Pump Protection & Control

Dual-plate wafer check valves on pump discharge to prevent reverse rotation and water hammer. Slow-closing butterfly valves or ball valves with controlled closure rates to minimize surge pressure. Pressure sustaining and pressure reducing valves for zone pressure management.

Frequently Asked Questions — Water Treatment Valves

What is the largest butterfly valve size you can supply?+
We supply rubber-seated double-flanged butterfly valves up to DN2000 (80 inches) for raw water and cooling water service. For sizes above DN600, we recommend confirming the installation dimensions and actuator torque requirements with our engineering team, as large-diameter butterfly valves require specific actuator mounting arrangements and operating thrust calculations.
What is the difference between a knife gate valve and a standard gate valve?+
A knife gate valve has a thin, sharp-edged stainless steel gate that cuts through slurries and fibrous media, providing a clean shut-off. It is designed for on-off isolation service in applications like sludge, paper pulp, ore slurry, and wastewater — where a standard wedge gate valve would become jammed with solids. Knife gate valves are also shorter face-to-face (wafer design) and lighter, making them economical for large-diameter slurry service.
Are your valves NSF 61 certified for potable water?+
Yes, we supply NSF/ANSI 61 certified valves for potable water service. All wetted parts (body coating, seats, seals) in our water supply butterfly valves and gate valves are NSF 61 compliant, meaning they will not leach harmful substances into drinking water. Certification documentation is available with each delivery.
What valve is best for preventing water hammer in pumping stations?+
Dual-plate wafer check valves are the most effective solution for preventing reverse flow and minimizing water hammer on pump trip. Their low-mass dual plates close quickly as flow reverses, minimizing the reverse flow volume before closure. For additional surge control, we recommend actuated butterfly valves with controlled closing speed (dashpot actuators) on the pump discharge to manage pressure transients in long transmission mains.
