About the Handwheel Override for Actuators
The handwheel override is a declutchable gearbox assembly fitted between the actuator output and the valve stem that allows an operator to manually open or close an automated valve when instrument air or electrical power is unavailable. The key design feature is the declutch mechanism: in normal automatic operation, the handwheel and its associated gear train are disengaged (declutched) from the actuator output shaft - the actuator operates the valve normally without driving the handwheel. Turning the handwheel then drives the valve directly, overriding the actuator.
