About the Multiport Needle Valve

Multiport needle valve manifolds - supplied as 2-valve, 3-valve, and 5-valve assemblies machined from a single solid bar of SS316 or carbon steel - provide the complete instrument isolation, equalisation, and bleed function for pressure transmitters, differential pressure transmitters, gauges, and switches in a single compact block. The 2-valve manifold (block-and-bleed) comprises one isolation needle and one bleed needle - used for gauge and pressure transmitter isolation and atmospheric bleed. The 3-valve manifold adds one equalisation valve, enabling safe transmitter removal or re-ranging by equalising pressure across both transmitter chambers before breaking the connection. The 5-valve manifold adds upstream and downstream isolation on each leg plus equalisation and bleed, providing the complete DP transmitter connection solution.

Manifold bodies machined from a single piece of bar stock eliminate all internal connectors and fittings between valves, reducing the number of potential leak points to zero within the manifold body itself. Only the process and transmitter connections remain as external joints. This single-body construction is a significant reliability advantage over a manifold assembled from separate tubing and fitting components. Vajra Industrial Solutions supplies 2-valve, 3-valve, and 5-valve manifolds in SS316 and carbon steel with NPT or BSP process connections and ASME B16.5 RF or RTJ flanged transmitter connections, rated to 6,000 psi.

Where It's Used

Key industries and applications for the Multiport Needle Valve

1

DP transmitter connections

5-valve SS316 manifolds mounted directly on differential pressure transmitters for flow metering orifice plates, level measurement on process vessels, and density/specific gravity measurement; factory-assembled and tested to avoid field assembly errors

2

Pressure transmitter and gauge isolation

2-valve SS316 block-and-bleed manifolds on all pressure transmitters, gauges, and switches; allows isolation and bleed-down for instrument removal and calibration without line shutdown

3

NACE sour service instrumentation

SS316L or Alloy 20 5-valve manifolds for DP transmitters on sour gas and crude oil production wells and separators; NACE MR0175 material certification required for H2S-containing environments

4

Cryogenic and low-temperature service

SS316 3-valve and 5-valve manifolds with graphite packing for instrument connections on LNG, liquid nitrogen, and ethylene process lines; low-temperature ductility of SS316 maintained to -196°C

5

High-pressure wellhead and gas production

5-valve SS316 manifolds rated to 6,000 psi for wellhead pressure and differential pressure measurement; RTJ flange process connections for Class 900–1500 wellhead tubing and casing connections

How to Choose the Right Multiport Needle Valve

Select the manifold configuration based on the instrument type: 2-valve (block-and-bleed) for pressure gauges, thermowells, and pressure switches; 3-valve for pressure transmitters where safe removal and calibration at the transmitter is required; 5-valve for differential pressure transmitters measuring flow or level. Always specify the process connection type (NPT, BSP, or RTJ/RF flange) to match the process nozzle, and the transmitter connection (typically 1/2" NPT male or ASME B16.5 flange) to match the instrument. For sour service, request NACE MR0175 material certification.
