Valve Standard Reference
ASME B16.10
AmericanFace-to-Face and End-to-End Dimensions of Valves
ASME B16.
Overview — ASME B16.10
ASME B16.10 standardises the face-to-face (FTF) and end-to-end (ETE) dimensions of flanged and butt-welding end valves to ensure interchangeability between valves from different manufacturers. When a replacement valve is specified to B16.10, it can be installed in the same flanged or welded space envelope as the original — critical for plant maintenance and turnaround planning. All major valve types (gate, globe, swing check, ball, butterfly) have specific B16.10 dimension tables.
Scope
Covers flanged and butt-welding end gate valves, globe valves, angle valves, swing check valves, lift check valves, ball valves, and butterfly valves. Size range NPS ½ through NPS 60 (where applicable). Pressure classes 125/150/250/300/600/900/1500/2500.

Key Requirements — ASME B16.10
Face-to-face dimensions tabulated per valve type, size, and pressure class
Tolerances: ±1/16 inch (±1.5 mm) for NPS ≤ 3½; ±1/8 inch (±3 mm) for NPS 4 to 10; ±3/16 inch for NPS 12+
Short, regular, and long pattern dimensions defined per type
Rising stem gate valves: face-to-face includes disc travel and bonnet projection
Butterfly valve face-to-face per Series 13 (lug/wafer) and Series 15 (double-flanged)
Ball valve FTF per regular and short-pattern designs
Testing Requirements — ASME B16.10
Dimensional inspection: face-to-face measurement within B16.10 tolerance
Documentation Required for ASME B16.10 Compliance
