Which industrial fluids Hastelloy C-276 valves can handle — rated across 15 process media with engineering notes. The compatibility reference for specifying Hastelloy C-276 body and trim.

What fluids is Hastelloy C-276 compatible with?

Hastelloy C-276 is rated across 15 industrial fluids in our compatibility data. It performs well in Acetic Acid (CH₃COOH), Amine (DEA / MEA / MDEA - Gas Sweetening), Caustic Potash (KOH - Potassium Hydroxide), Chlorine (Cl₂), Hydrochloric Acid (HCl), MEG / Glycol (Monoethylene Glycol - Gas Dehydration). Full ratings and notes below — always confirm against concentration, temperature and velocity.

Material grades & metallurgy

Excellent11 fluids
Acetic Acid (CH₃COOH)Best choice for glacial and hot acetic acid in PTA oxidation service.
Amine (DEA / MEA / MDEA - Gas Sweetening)Used for hottest, most corrosive amine service points.
Caustic Potash (KOH - Potassium Hydroxide)Excellent across all KOH concentrations and temperatures.
Chlorine (Cl₂)Best all-round choice for both wet and dry service.
Hydrochloric Acid (HCl)Best alloy choice for all concentrations.
MEG / Glycol (Monoethylene Glycol - Gas Dehydration)Used in rich MEG service at elevated temperature in regeneration columns.
Oxygen (O₂ - Industrial and Medical Grade)Used for high-pressure medical oxygen and critical GOX service.
Phosphoric Acid (H₃PO₄)Best choice for wet process phosphoric acid with fluoride impurities.
Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl - Bleach)Best metallic choice for concentrated NaOCl.
Sulphuric Acid (H₂SO₄)Excellent across all concentrations. Industry standard for dilute H₂SO₄.
Urea Solution (Carbamide / DEF / AdBlue)Used in the most aggressive urea carbamate conditions in synthesis loops.
Good1 fluids
Chlorine Dioxide (ClO₂)Acceptable for dilute ClO₂ service.
Fair3 fluids
Carbon Monoxide (CO)High nickel content - same Ni(CO)₄ risk as above. Verify with process chemist.
Hydrofluoric Acid (HF)Only for dilute aqueous HF - not for anhydrous or hot concentrated HF.
Nitric Acid (HNO₃)Not ideal for HNO₃ - SS 304L is preferred due to Mo susceptibility.
