The double flanged butterfly valve is the heavy-duty variant of the butterfly valve family, featuring integral raised-face or flat-face flanges cast directly onto both ends of the body. Unlike wafer and lug designs that rely on the adjacent pipe flanges for structural support, the double flanged body is self-supporting and can carry the full pipe bending moments and axial loads independently. This structural integrity makes double flanged butterfly valves the design of choice for large-diameter water transmission mains, raw water intake systems, and industrial pipelines where the valve must be fully self-supporting in the pipeline - particularly at expansion joint connections, pump connections where vibration loads are present, or in long pipeline runs where the valve cannot rely on closely spaced adjacent supports.
