About the Knife Gate Valve
The knife gate valve is specifically engineered for slurry, pulp, and abrasive media service where conventional gate, ball, or butterfly valves fail prematurely. The gate is a thin, sharp-edged stainless steel or hardened plate that cuts cleanly through suspended solids, fibres, and viscous media as it descends to close - rather than squeezing them between a disc and seat. The slim gate profile minimises flow restriction in the open position and the valve body is designed without pockets or dead zones where solids can accumulate and cause the gate to seize.
Knife gate valves operate at low pressures (typically PN6–PN10) since the thin gate is not designed for high differential pressure holding. The seat is typically a resilient elastomer sleeve (EPDM, NBR, or polyurethane) that wraps around the gate in the fully closed position and self-seals under moderate pressure. For abrasive or high-temperature media, metal-seated designs with hardened gate and seat are available.
