Industrial Valves for Chemical & Pharma

Corrosion-Resistant & Sanitary Valves for Chemical and Pharmaceutical Processes

Chemical and pharmaceutical plants handle aggressive media — acids, alkalis, solvents, halogens — that attack conventional valve materials. They also require ultra-high purity, crevice-free construction for active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing. Vajra supplies corrosion-resistant and high-purity valve solutions in SS316L, Hastelloy C-276, PVDF, and rubber-lined constructions.

Frequently Asked Questions — Chemical & Pharma Valves

What valve material is recommended for hydrochloric acid (HCl) service?+
For dilute HCl (up to 20% concentration at ambient temperature), rubber-lined butterfly valves with EPDM or natural rubber lining are cost-effective. For concentrated HCl or elevated temperatures, Hastelloy C-276 ball valves or PVDF-lined butterfly valves are recommended. PTFE-lined diaphragm or globe valves are also excellent choices across the full HCl concentration range.
What is Ra ≤ 0.4μm and why does it matter in pharma valves?+
Ra (arithmetic average roughness) is a measure of internal surface finish. In pharmaceutical service, Ra ≤ 0.4μm (400nm) electro-polished internal surfaces are required to prevent product contamination (biofilm formation, product retention in crevices). This surface finish is mandated by ASME BPE for all product-contact components in API manufacturing and biopharmaceutical processing.
Do you supply ATEX-certified actuators for chemical plants?+
Yes, we supply ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 2 certified pneumatic and electric actuators suitable for hazardous areas in chemical plants. ATEX-certified actuators use intrinsically safe electrical components, spark-resistant materials, and sealed enclosures to prevent ignition of flammable vapors. We can supply complete actuated valve packages with ATEX certification documentation.
What is a diaphragm valve and when is it used in pharma?+
A diaphragm valve uses a flexible diaphragm (PTFE, EPDM, or Viton) pressed against a weir or seat to control flow, with no stem packing or internal crevices. This makes it ideal for pharmaceutical and biotech applications where zero contamination from packing and easy clean-in-place (CIP) or steam-in-place (SIP) sterilization are required. Sanitary diaphragm valves are the most widely used valve type in API manufacturing.
