The bellows sealed globe valve replaces the conventional gland packing as the primary stem seal with a metallic SS316L bellows element. The bellows is welded to the stem at its lower end and to the bonnet at its upper end, creating a hermetically sealed barrier around the moving stem. Because the bellows flexes (rather than sliding against a packing ring) with every valve stroke, there is no dynamic sealing surface to wear - and therefore no progressive increase in stem leakage over the valve's service life that is characteristic of packed-gland designs. A secondary packing gland above the bellows serves as a redundant safety backup; a telltaleindicator port between bellows and gland alerts maintenance to bellows failure before the secondary seal is called into service.
