EN 1092-1 is the European standard for steel flanges, defining the PN-designated (Pressure Nominal) pressure ratings, dimensions, tolerances, materials, and marking requirements for circular flanges used on pipes, valves, fittings, and accessories. It is the European counterpart to ASME B16.5 and is mandatory for flanged equipment supplied into EU markets under the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU). EN 1092-1 flanges are specified on European refinery, chemical plant, offshore, and building services projects and are essential for CE-marked valve packages destined for EU installation.
Scope
Covers steel raised-face (Type 11 welding neck, Type 02 loose plate, Type 05 blind, etc.) and flat-face circular flanges in PN 6, PN 10, PN 16, PN 25, PN 40, PN 63, PN 100, PN 160, PN 250, and PN 400. Applicable to carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel flanges from DN 10 to DN 4000 (where applicable per class).

Key Requirements — EN 1092-1
PN (Pressure Nominal) designations from PN 6 through PN 400 — each with defined P-T rating by material group
Flange type designations: Type 01 (plate, flat face), Type 02 (loose plate), Type 05 (blind), Type 11 (weld neck), Type 12 (hubbed slip-on), Type 13 (hubbed threaded), Type 21 (integral), Type 34 (welding boss)
Facing types: flat face (FF), raised face (RF), tongue and groove (T&G), male/female (M/F), ring joint (RJ)
Bolting and bolt circle dimensions per PN class and DN size
Material groups per EN 13480 or EN 13445 aligned with European pressure vessel codes
CE marking required for flanges used under PED 2014/68/EU Annex I
Surface finish Ra ≤ 6.3 µm for raised face seating surface
Testing Requirements — EN 1092-1
