API 624 - Type Testing of Rising and Setting Stem Valves Equipped with Graphite Packing for Fugitive Emissions

API 624 extends API 622 by specifying complete valve-level fugitive emissions type testing for gate and globe valves equipped with graphite packing - a valve-level certification complementing the packing-level API 622 test.

What is API 624?

API 624 (API 624 - Type Testing of Rising and Setting Stem Valves Equipped with Graphite Packing for Fugitive Emissions) is an industrial valve standard issued by American Petroleum Institute (API). API 624 requires type testing of a complete gate or globe valve assembly with graphite packing to demonstrate fugitive emissions compliance under thermal cycling.

Overview - API 624

API 624 extends API 622 by specifying complete valve-level fugitive emissions type testing for gate and globe valves equipped with graphite packing - a valve-level certification complementing the packing-level API 622 test.

Scope

API 624 requires type testing of a complete gate or globe valve assembly with graphite packing to demonstrate fugitive emissions compliance under thermal cycling. Unlike API 622 which tests the packing set only, API 624 tests the entire valve (body, bonnet, stem, packing box, and packing) as a system. 1,500 thermal cycles at 450°F and 600 psig helium, with leak rate measurement at each cycle interval. Valves passing API 624 receive qualification as a valve model for fugitive emissions service.

Vajra Industrial Solutions manufactures and supplies valves engineered to comply with API 624, each delivered with API 624 type test certificate for valve model and Third-party witnessed test report as standard.
