Suitable Services

HF alkylation (STRATCO / Equistar process) - Monel M35-1 is mandatory for valve bodies, stems, and trim in contact with HF

Offshore seawater cooling - saltwater corrosion resistance, better than duplex in low-velocity seawater

Hydrochloric acid service - reducing acid below oxidising threshold

Sodium hydroxide (caustic) service - superior to stainless in hot concentrated caustic

Brine and salt processing - evaporators, crystallisers, valve isolation

Not Suitable For

Oxidising acids (nitric acid, hot concentrated H₂SO₄) - Hastelloy C-276 preferred

High-temperature above 482°C - mechanical strength falls; use Inconel 625 or 718

Aerated HF - can cause stress corrosion cracking; specific deaeration may be required

Valve Body Applications

HF alkylation unit valve bodies - hydrofluoric acid at all concentrations (key refinery material)

Seawater service valve bodies - offshore platforms, marine ballast, cooling water

Reducing acid valve bodies - sulfuric, hydrochloric (below aeration threshold)

Caustic (NaOH) service valve bodies - where chloride contamination is present

Trim Applications

Seat rings and plug trim for corrosion-resistant valve trim in HF service

Stems and packing glands in Monel ball and gate valves
