Suitable Services

Nuclear power (BWR/PWR) — piping valves in reactor coolant auxiliary systems; F347 resists sensitisation in high-temperature radioactive water service

Ethylene cracker and catalytic reformer — sustained temperatures above 450°C where 316L would sensitise

Hot hydrogen service (hydroprocessing) — niobium stabilisation prevents intergranular attack under Nelson curve conditions

Aerospace and high-temperature industrial valves — gas turbine auxiliary valves

Heat exchanger and furnace valves — repeated thermal cycling without weld sensitisation

Not Suitable For

Chloride environments at elevated temperature — sensitisation is not the primary corrosion mechanism; use duplex or Hastelloy

Strong mineral acids — nickel alloys required

Service above +816°C — refractory alloys or Inconel 625/718 required

When post-weld heat treatment can be reliably applied — 304L or 316L may be more economical

Valve Body Applications

Valve bodies and bonnets in nuclear power BWR/PWR primary loop and secondary systems

High-temperature process valve bodies in ethylene cracker and catalytic reformer units

Valve flanges and end-piece forgings for elevated-temperature piping (ASME B31.1 / B31.3)

Trim Applications

Stems, back-seat bushings, and body-bonnet studs in high-temperature stainless valves

Cage and seat ring trim for globe control valves in high-temperature service
